Torah Bright, an Australian snowboarder is more than a decade old. She was a former World Champion. She has also competed in two Winter Olympics. As an athlete, she is known for her innovative Halfpipe runs. Her ability to win gold and silver medals in both events has earned her this reputation.

Torah Bright started out snowboarding backcountry riding. Ben Bright her brother, a pro snowboarder herself, also mentored Torah Bright. But Bright eventually grew tired of the competitive snowboarding world. In 2015, Bright decided to quit competitive snowboarding and concentrate her efforts on other areas in her life. Today, she lives in Salt Lake City, Utah, and splits her time between the Salt Lake City area and Australia.

At the 2010 Winter Olympic Games she won the gold for women's semipipe and carried the Australian flag to the opening ceremony. She finished fifth in the quarterfinals. Bright managed to post a 45.0 score for the second run despite her crash on her first run. This score was the highest in all of the field.

Bright has also received a number of awards and accolades over the years. Bright was named best female actionsport athlete at the ESPY Awards. This award was presented to her for her performance at the Burton Global Open Series in 2007.

Bright is married to fellow snowboarder Angus Thomson. The pair have a son. They split in 2010. Bright took a break from snowboarding while they were apart. She was able to qualify for the Australian team at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Nagano (Japan) upon her return.


Bright qualified for all three snowboard events at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. However, Bright was not included in the PyeongChang South Korean team. After a two months hiatus she returned to competition, taking a silver in the Halfpipe.

Bright competed in World Cup events for many years before her Olympic victory. She was third in the World Cup Superpipe in 2004, and second for Halfpipe in the World Cup in 2005. She won the FIS Halfpipe World Cup in Norway 2005.

Bright began her professional career at the age of 14. Sarah Bright, Bright's older sibling, has been a skier as well. Bright has revolutionized snowboarding. While her main focus is snowboarding, she also supports climate change awareness. Out of Bounds, Mountain Adventure is her latest project.
